Confidential Ethics Consultation: TPA Ethics Committee
The TPA Ethics Committee is NOT an enforcement body; it is a professional resource for TPA members to use to obtain confidential consultation on ethics issues. The chair of the Committee is Dr. Jim Brown, and members can initiate a consultation with the committee by contacting him by email, at jimbrownphd@att.net.
Dr. Brown adds, "The ethics committee task is
to provide supportive consultation regarding ethics, laws that affect the
practice of psychology, and risk management. We do not perform any kind
of investigation, determine guilt or innocence, or take punitive action. All
consultations are confidential and that confidentiality is protected by
Tennessee law. If a complaint is received against a TPA member, we will
contact the member - only for the purpose of offering consultation in regard to
the alleged violation. Our goal is to assist psychological practitioners
in understanding and problem-solving, with the recognition that each
practitioner is free to make (and is responsible for) their own choices. Please
call if we can be of assistance."
